LOUIS NAJARIAN, MD
President

Dr. Najarian completed his Residency in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry at Downstate Medical Center-Kings County Hospital. His professional activities include private practice of adult, adolescent and child psychiatry. He is an Attending at North Shore University Hospital, teaches Child Psychotherapy to Child Psychiatry Fellows and is a consultant to the Port Washington Public School District. He has conducted clinical research and published findings on PTSD and has been invited by the APA and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to present at annual meetings on the results of clinical research on children’s reaction to trauma of natural disaster. He is also a reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Currently a member of the GLIPS Board of Directors, Dr. Najarian is the 1999 recipient of the APA’s Bruno Lima Award for excellence in disaster psychiatry. He was recently elected as a Fellow to the APA.

JUDITH MARCUS, MD
President-Elect

Dr. Judith Marcus graduated from Cornell University and Downstate  Medical Center. She completed her psychiatric residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in the Bronx. After serving briefly as an attending at the day hospital at Jacobi Municipal Medical Center, she was appointed Assistant Director at the Montefiore Outpatient Clinic where she stayed for two years. Her responsibilities included teaching, supervision and administration. From 1989-94, Dr. Marcus was in private practice in Great Neck and trained as a psychoanalyst at The Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. While continuing in private practice, she has taught a course in Dynamic Psychotherapy and supervised residents at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for the last 15 years. She recently joined the faculty at  LIJ and supervises a resident there. Dr. Marcus has been a member of GLIPS for many years.

JEFFREY SELZER, MD

Dr. Selzer completed a residency in psychiatry at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute in 1983. Since completing his residency he has been on staff in the Long Island Jewish Medical Center Department of Psychiatry in a variety of clinical and administrative roles. Currently he is Director of Addiction Treatment Services for Zucker Hillside Hospital and for the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System. He is also the Chairman of the Behavioral Health Performance Improvement Coordinating Group for the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System. His work in state organizations includes serving as Secretary for the New York Society of Addiction Medicine and as a liaison for MSSNY’s committee for Physician Health. He is a member of the Executive committee of the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network. In November, 2002, Dr. Selzer was elected an APA Distinguished Fellow.

JACQUELINE CAST

Ms. Cast has served as Executive Director of both the former Nassau Psychiatric Society and the Suffolk District Branch, APA before their consolidation to form the Greater Long Island Psychiatric Society. In addition to overseeing the general operation of the organization, Ms. Cast assists in providing referral information to the public and is the link between members, the public and the organization. She currently serves as a Consultant to the American Psychiatric Association's National Membership Committee, and chairs the Ad-Hoc Workgroup on Centralized Membership Processing.

JANE V. PERR, MD

Dr. Perr joined the Nassau Psychiatric Society in 1984. While a resident at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Dr. Perr was chosen to be an APA Falk Fellow and was assigned to the APA's Committee on Medical Student Education. A Fellow of the APA, she has a private practice in Manhasset and is the Psychiatric Director of AHRC Nassau County Chapter which serves the developmentally disabled and the mentally retarded. She supervises residents at both Long Island Jewish Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the NY Metro Chapter of the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD), an organization concerned with issues related to assisting developmentally disabled individuals with mental illness. She served on the Board of Directors of the Nassau Psychiatric Society from 1992-1994, as its Deputy Delegate from 1994-1996, as Delegate of the Greater Long Island Psychiatric Society from 1996-1998, and its Secretary-Treasurer from 1998-1999. She served as a member of the Committee on Nominations of the New York State Psychiatric Association from 1995-1998, and as a member of the APA's Membership Committee from 1996-1999.

RUTH WALDBAUM, MD

Dr. Waldbaum is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of both Pediatrics and Psychiatry at New York University Medical School and is an attending in Psychiatry and Pediatrics at North Shore University Hospital. Dr. Waldbaum served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Long Island Psychiatric Society from 1998. She is in private practice of Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Manhasset, NY.

BEVERLY GOODMAN, MD

Dr. Goodman is Associate Director of Training - Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Physician-in-Charge of the Consultation and Liaison Services to Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at North Shore University Hospital. She is Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry-NYU. Her interests include Eating Disorders, Adolescent Psychotherapy and Early Childhood Development and School Mental Health Services. She is Board Certified in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry.

MICHAEL SCHWARTZ, MD

Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1997.  He trained at Mt. Sinai (1997-1981).  He was a Medical Staff Fellow, NIA, NIH (1981-1983).  Currently a faculty member at Stony Brook University (1982-current).  He is Training Director, Department of Psychiatry, Stony Brook University.  Dr. Schwartz also maintains a private practice in Huntington, NY. 

DEBORAH WEISBROT, MD

Dr. Weisbrot is the Director of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Division and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stony Brook. After attending medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo, she went to the Yale School of Medicine where she completed her psychiatric residency and became an instructor in Psychiatry. Dr. Weisbrot subsequently completed a child and adolescent psychiatry Fellowship at the Payne Whitney Clinic at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. She joined the faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she was a supervising psychiatrist on intensive treatment and training units at the Bronx Psychiatric Center. She served as Associate Director of Residency Training for PGY-4 residents at the Albert Einstein Department of Psychiatry. Since 1986, she has had an active private practice, treating children, adolescents and adults.

VICTOR FORNARI, MD

Dr. Fornari is the Associate Chairman for Education and Training in the Department of Psychiatry at North Shore University Hospital. He is also Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Fornari is actively involved in research in eating disorders, and has collaborated on numerous published articles and textbooks chapters on the subject. In 1994 he was awarded a National Institute of Mental Health grant to study the use of phototherapy for the treatment of Bulimia Nervosa.

LAWRENCE GREENBERG, MD

Dr. Greenberg graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  After completing his psychiatric residency at SUNY Stony Brook, he completed an NIMH Physician-Scientist Award at Stony Brook.  He was Chief of Psychiatry at the Northport VAMC and Vice Chair of Psychiatry for the VA at Stony Brook from 1991-1995.  Since then he has been in private practice at South Oaks Hospital. Dr. Greenberg is the Medical Service Director for Adult Psychiatric Service and Medical Director for South Oaks Affiliates, as well as a two time medical staff president at South Oaks. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Greenberg remains involved in psychopharmacologic research as the site investigator for NeuroBehavioral Reseach Inc. (NBR) at South Oaks.  Dr. Greenberg was elected to fellowship of the APA in 2004.

DAVID MARGULIES, MD

Dr. Margulies is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his residency and fellowship, in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, at SUNY at Stony Brook. He has a B.A. in Economics from Dowling College and a B.S. in Biochemistry from SUNY at Stony Brook. Prior to returning for his second degree, Dr. Margulies worked as a stockbroker for Dean Witter Reynolds and Shearson Lehman Brothers. Since finishing his fellowship he has started a private practice in Port Jefferson Station.  He also works as a Psychiatric Officer of the Day, on a part-time basis, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport. More recently, he received a voluntary academic appointment at Stony Brook and works part-time in the Stony Brook CPEP.

ANNMARIE SIANO, DO

Dr. Siano graduated from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001.  She completed her residency training at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Hospital (2005) and Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Long Island Jewish-Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center (2006).  She is currently Unit Chief of a Geriatric Ward at Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center.  Dr. Siano has served as Chairperson of the GLIPS Women's Committee.

KARYL COLE, MD

Dr. Cole is a Distinguished Fellow of the APA.  She did her psychiatric residency at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and then completed a 2-year Psychotherapy Fellowship at Hillside Hospital.  She worked half-time in the Hillside Research Division for 15 years, and is currently doing full-time private practice.  As a Voluntary Attending at Hillside, Dr. Cole supervises psychiatric residents and was recently awarded the APA Irma Bland award for teaching residents.  She is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. 

ANTHONY DONATELLI, MD

Dr. Donatelli is a graduate of Columbia College and the University of Bologna School of Medicine.  His Adult Psychiatry training was at North Shore University Hospital where he also did a Fellowship in Child Psychiatry.  In addition to his private practice in Manhasset, he is Medical Director of North Shore’s Day Treatment Center.  Dr. Donatelli supervises residents in the Department of Psychiatry and teaches a yearly course in Psychopharmacology.  He has served on the Physicians’ Affairs, Curriculum, Education, and Executive Committees.  He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
 

SASHI SHUKLA, MD

Dr. Shukla is a graduate of Delhi University, New Delhi, India.  She completed her psychiatric residency training at New York Medical College.  Currently she is an Assistant Clinical Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry, Behavioral Science SUNY, Stony Brook.  An APA Fellow, and International Medical Graduate representative to the GLIPS Board, she maintains a private practice and is Attending Psychiatrist at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital and St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY.

SPIRO THEOHARAKIS, MD

Dr. Theoharakis is a graduate of Albany Medical College.  He completed internship, residency and Child Fellowship at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset.  Dr. Theoharakis initially worked full-time in in-patient psychiatry.  Currently he is in full time private practice and consults for developmentally disabled adults.  Dr. Theoharakis’ areas of interest include developmental disorders, ADHD, adolescents and adult mood disorders.
